Specifically, we analyzed 48,671 tweets and 3,395 shared links to better understand how CFOs describe themselves, what content they share, and who influences them on social media. Not surprisingly, many of the CFOs looked at came from major metros (New York and San Francisco Bay Area), which are typically ahead of the curve when it comes to technology adoption.Why Twitter activity? Because social media data has a leg up on other data sources such as surveys, polls and focus groups since it shows what people really do versus what they say they do.With that said, here are four key insights that came from the report that you should consider when using (or getting started with) social media1. Its okay to be who you areSure, se nior finance professionals use terms like CFO, VP, CPA, Finance, and Accounting in their Twitter bios. But they also include personal words like Family, Father, and Enthusiast. Plus its not all work and no play when it comes to what CFOs engage with on social media. Besides business, leadership, innovation, and healthcare, they also like to read and share about sports, holidays, and local events.So use social media to connect professionally and personally. Remember youre engaging with people so its okay to be human, too.2. Dont limit yourself to only one social networkThis may come as a surprise but CFOs arent just on LinkedIn. Many also share YouTube videos, and photos and status updates from Instagram and Facebook. For instance, putting your phone, or anything else that could distract you, away speaks volumes to the participants. It will also encourage them to do the same, so everyone is fully focused on the meeting.Encourage participation - from everyoneBe as inclusive as possible during your meeting. Its important to get the views and thoughts of many participants - not just your most opinionated creatives.Also, provide opportunities for less-outspoken team members to contribute to the conversation. They often have innovative ideas but might not be inclined to jump into discussions without prompting. And be prepared to ask individual participants directly for thei r input.Opara says creative leaders should be willing to be inspired by great ideas coming from any team member because it can inform their own work - and help them maintain a fresh outlook on projects. I am always learning from my team, including while I am teaching them, he says. I think its important for creative leaders, no matter how experienced they are, to constantly remind themselves to keep learning. Why? Because thats what helps them stay relevant.He adds that encouraging team members to speak up and share their ideas can also help them to refine their soft skills, which are important for long-term career success.The term soft skills makes it sound as if those skills arent valuable, says Cullen. But they have incredible value. Effective collaboration and communication are so important for moving people around an idea or a certain initiative or strategy. Also, the courage and strength to speak up and share ideas, and really explore those ideas, are important to the actual day-to-day part of making things - more so than any technology you might use in the process. A creative team needs strong communicators, influencers and discerners to move an idea or project forward.Dont fail to follow upSharing a recap of the creative team meeting and action items, even if its just a quick email with bullet points, is incredibly valuable. A thorough, well-organized recap is an effective way of reinforcing the outcome of the meeting and whats needed to move that outcome forward.Capturing ideas and to-do lists helps prevent misunderstandings and holds people accountable for their action items. How will making this kind of change impact your finances? Is it going to push back your retirement date or make it harder for your kids to go to college? Will you be making more money, or will you be making less? Can your family handle the possi bility of going without your income for a bit while you get back on your feet? Whats going to happen with your current financial obligations while you adjust to your new job?This isnt to say that you need to make more money in order to switch fields. In fact, many people drop down a few tax brackets and find themselves perfectly happy. What you need to know, though, is whats going to happen with your financial future. If youre happy with the answers to those questions, it may be feasible to switch fields. If not, its best you plan things out further before switching careers. Its always a matter of balancing risks with rewards.How would this career change affect my family?If youre in a committed relationship and/or you have kids, changing careers is going to impact more lives than just your own. They come with promises that those who follow the model will close more sales, have more profit in their deals and become more successful by earning promotions, income, awards, and prizes. One such sales model that is widely used is the Relationship sale Model. This model teaches that the primary role of a sales representative is to establish a relationship with their clients. The belief is that people like to buy from people they like and will find a reason to do so. Conversely, people will find a reason not to buy from sales reps who they do not like. Get liked, get more deals. While building relationships is a powerful and beneficial objective for sales professionals to consider, many changes and emerging trends may have rendered follow ing the Relationship Sales Model antiquated. Customers Are Busy Relationships take time to build. While there is such a thing as instant rapport, most customers are too busy to spend time meeting with a sales professional as often as the Relationship Sales Model suggests it takes to build a relationship. Customers want to meet with a sales rep, get information and pricing then make a decision about whether or not the proposed solution is the right solution for them and their business needs. Customers Are Better Informed Part of the Relationship Sales Model relies on being an expert in a particular aspect of the customers business. The model suggests that an informed and prepared representative gains both credibility and rapport by bringing information to the customer that is needed and is, for the most part, beyond the reach of the customer. The Internet has changed many things in business and one of the most significant of these changes is how easy it is for customers to ge t access to information. Customers are becoming or have become much better informed about their business needs, their vertical and horizontal industry and available solutions to their challenges. Many customers no longer rely on their sale rep friends to inform them. In fact, an uninformed customer is often seen as a low-value employee. In order to increase job security, customers are continually increasing their knowledge base and, therefore, lowering their dependency on sales professionals. Over Saturation of Relationship Sales Approach Like it or not, you are not the only sales rep calling on your accounts. Not only are your competitors making calls, but representatives of many different industries are visiting, calling and emailing the same decision makers that you are. Since the Relationship Sales Model is so widely used, customers are quite used to sales reps and their attempts to build a relationship with them. So familiar, in fact, that customers have grown tired and wea ry of reps stating I dont want to just sell you something I want to build a long relationship with you. As soon as a customer hears that, they probably begin thinking This rep wants to sell me something Reliance Upon a Single Model is Limiting There is no doubt that sales models like the Relationship Sales Model are valuable and important tools for reps both in their initial and long-term training. But the reliance on one model is a dangerous and limiting career move. Sales professionals are best servedlearning multiple sales models and building the acumen to differentiate when to use known models. This is much like closing skills and techniques. Rely on one and you will only close sales opportunities that call for that specific type of close. Use just one selling model and you effectively run the risk of eliminating your chances of earning a customer who could have been made if a different approach was used.
